Getting started

Install Posh on Android, complete local first-launch setup, and start managing inventory—cloud backup connects when online.

What is Posh?

Posh is an offline-first inventory app with optional POS and business profiles for retail, hardware, dental, food service, hotel, and laundry. Your catalog, stock levels, receiving records, and sales data live on your Android device in a local database. Day-to-day work—counting stock, receiving deliveries, selling at the register—does not require internet.

Cloud sync is optional: it backs up your store and lets multiple devices share the same catalog and settings. Point of sale, orders, and sales reports are optional add-ons you can turn on or off per device in Settings.

First launch: choose your path

When you open Posh for the first time, you choose one of three setup paths:

  • Set up a new store — You are the store owner. Enter store profile details, then start using the workspace on this device. A PIN is optional later in Settings. Cloud backup connects automatically when online (or later from Settings).
  • Restore store from cloud — You are an admin replacing a lost or new device. You need a one-time recovery code from an existing admin device and internet.
  • Join store — You are a cashier or inventory staff member joining an existing store. You need an invite code from your store admin and internet.

New store setup steps

  1. Choose your business type (general retail, hardware store, dental clinic, food service, hotel, or laundry shop).
  2. Enter your store name, owner name, and contact number.
  3. The inventory workspace opens after you save the store profile. Cloud sync may continue in the background when you are online—it does not block local work.
  4. After setup, you land on the Home screen (admins and inventory staff) or POS (cashiers when enabled). Inventory remains the catalog tab.

Optional device PIN

After setup, the workspace opens without a PIN. To lock later launches, set a 4-digit PIN in Settings → Security (admins) or Device (cashiers and inventory staff). Once a PIN is set, later launches show a PIN login screen. The app remembers your store locally; you do not need email or password.

To switch users after a PIN is set (for example, from admin to cashier), sign out from Settings or the status strip, then sign in with the other person's PIN.

Add your first products

Admins add products from the Inventory screen:

  1. Tap the + button to open the product form.
  2. Enter name, price, optional SKU or barcode, cost price, and starting stock quantity.
  3. For hardware stores, you can sell by length (for example, lumber priced per foot) and use denser list layouts on tablets. For food service, add size variants (for example, Small / Medium / Large) on menu items.
  4. Save the product. It appears in your catalog immediately.

You can also bulk-import products from CSV. Open the Inventory menu (⋮) and choose CSV import. Download the template, fill in your catalog, and import. See Inventory & products for details on stock and the ledger.

Hardware store mode

If you selected hardware store during setup, Posh optimizes for SKU-heavy catalogs: scan or type SKUs quickly, sell cut-to-length items, and use tablet-friendly list density. Business type is set at create-store and is not edited in Settings (synced devices follow the cloud tenant).

Dental clinic mode

Dental clinics get Patients, Calendar, and Visits on the unpaid profile. Dental Pro unlocks tooth charting, structured visit notes, treatment plans, and an optional public booking page on your storefront. Procedures can be catalog products with stock tracking turned off so sales do not reduce inventory.

Food service mode

Food service uses a menu-first catalog with size variants, open orders at the counter, dine-in tables, a kitchen prep queue, and takeaway or delivery at checkout. Sales & POS is on by default. Tips can be added after tax. Food Pro unlocks staff devices, catalog photos, the online storefront, and multi-device kitchen. This is counter and light table service—not a full restaurant PMS (no CAD floor maps or split bills).

Hotel mode

Hotel reuses the food-service menu and open-order model with room-service fulfillment, Guests labeling, rooms, stays, and folio settlement. A guest QR hub handles room ordering and service requests. The Kitchen tab shows room-service prep; hotels do not use dine-in table maps. Hotel Pro unlocks the guest hub, stays/folio, and multi-device kitchen.

Laundry shop mode

Laundry shops use a service catalog (wash & fold by the kilo, dry clean, ironing) plus stocked supplies. Walk-in drop-off jobs get claim tickets and a status flow through ready and claim. Sales & POS is on by default so you can pay on pickup (or take payment at intake). Single-device jobs work before you subscribe; Laundry Pro unlocks staff devices, catalog photos, and a shared multi-device job queue.
