Point of sale
Optional register add-on—search, scan, sell, print receipts, and process refunds offline.
Last updated: July 17, 2026
Enabling POS
Point of sale is an optional add-on toggled per device in Settings → Add-ons. It is on by default on new installs. When enabled, admins and cashiers see a POS tab; when disabled, the tab is hidden and POS routes redirect to home.
An active POS subscription through Google Play is required for cloud sync and multi-device cashier access. See Subscriptions & billing.
The register screen
POS shows your product catalog in a grid or list optimized for checkout. Tap products to add them to the cart, or use search and barcode scan.
- Cart — line items, quantities, discounts, and total. Adjust quantity or remove lines before checkout.
- Customer — optionally attach a customer for trade discount or credit tracking (admin manages customers in Settings).
- Payment — cash or other methods configured for your store. Complete the sale to decrement stock and create a receipt.
Barcode scanning
Tap the scan icon to open the camera scanner. Scanning adds the matching product to the cart. The same scan-station layout is used for stocktake counting and delivery receiving. You can also scan when creating or editing products in Inventory.
Held tickets
Park an in-progress sale when a customer steps away. Recall held tickets from the POS screen to finish checkout later. Held tickets do not decrement stock until the sale completes.
Stock and overselling
Completing a sale writes a sale movement to the stock ledger and reduces on-hand quantity. By default, Posh prevents selling more than available stock.
Admins can enable Allow selling out-of-stock items in Settings → Sales when POS is on. Use this only if you accept backorders or manual stock reconciliation.
Hardware store: sell by length
For lumber, pipe, and similar items, enter length or quantity in fractional units at checkout. Pricing follows your per-foot or per-unit configuration on the product.
Receipts
After checkout, view the receipt on screen. From there you can print (when a Bluetooth thermal printer is paired), share, or start a return. Receipts also appear in the Orders tab when that add-on is enabled.
Bluetooth printing
Pair a thermal receipt printer in Settings → Printer. Posh uses Bluetooth to send receipt data; on some Android versions, location permission is required for Bluetooth discovery only—not for tracking.
Refunds and voids
Refunds
Open a past sale from Orders or the receipt screen. Choose partial or full refund, select lines and quantities. Refunded quantities return to stock via refund ledger entries.
Void sale
Admins can void a completed sale entirely. Voiding reverses stock and marks the sale cancelled with a sale_cancel movement.
Offline checkout
Sales complete locally without internet. Stock and receipts save to the device immediately. When cloud sync is active, sales sync to the cloud on the next sync cycle so other devices and reports stay current.
